FAQs

Restylane is a full product line of soft and firm injectable gels made of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body that attracts and binds water molecules to add volume. Restylane fillers are formulated with two technologies – NASHATM and Optimal Balance TechnologyTM – creating a broad range of gel textures. This allows your healthcare professional to tailor treatment to your unique facial tissue, for a natural look customized to you. Results are immediate, adding volume to smooth out wrinkles and enhance facial balance for a more youthful, revitalized look.
Restylane restores volume to smooth wrinkles and soften facial lines. Restylane can also be used to enhance facial features such as your lips, cheeks, and jawline by adding volume for fullness and definition.
There are some people in whom Restylane should not be used. At your initial consultation, it’s important to tell your healthcare professional about all of your current and prior medical conditions and allergies and, how serious they are, all medications you are taking and whether you have had or are planning to have another aesthetic procedure (e.g., laser, chemical peel).
Some people may experience the treatment as a mild discomfort. Many Restylane products contain an integrated local anaesthetic, lidocaine, to provide you with a more comfortable treatment experience. You and your healthcare professional may decide whether additional pain relief is needed.
A treatment with Restylane doesn’t usually take long. A touch-up treatment is sometimes performed after the initial treatment to optimize your results. Talk to your healthcare professional to learn more about the treatment procedure.
The results of the treatment vary from patient to patient. However, the results typically last around nine months. In many cases, the results last well over one year.
Some minor swelling is expected after treatment. This is usually minor and resolves within a week. Some patients will also develop minor bruising that can usually be covered with makeup. Patients should avoid exercise for twenty-four hours after the procedure to minimize swelling. Otherwise, patients can resume work and normal activities.
The most common side effects include injection-related reactions such as swelling, bruising, redness, pain and tenderness. These effects generally disappear within one week after injection. Other potential side effects can occur. You should discuss the potential treatment risks with your healthcare professional.
